A new 62 bed Residential Care Home managed by Sheffcare Ltd, designed to meet current mobility and care standards replacing an existing facility on the same site located within an established residential home.
The accommodation was generally for elderly residents, many of whom required specialist care and facilities. The building was spilt into male and female wings at ground floor with specialist dementia care areas at the first floor level. The design also included new car parking areas, access and service roads, formal garden areas with hard and soft landscaping.
The original design, comprehensive employer's requirement documents and the town planning application had been done by others on behalf of the employer before we became involved. We were eventually appointed by the successful design and build contractor, and our role involved developing the outline design in its final detail, the production of detail construction drawings, making the building regulations application, co-ordination of mechanical and electrical services and site inspection duties throughout the duration of the activities on site.
Our work had to be done to a very tight programme, and as always liaison with the Client and the other design consultants at the earliest stage was very important to the successful outcome of the project.
Alternative colour coordinated choices for the interior design scheme were presented to the Client for residents to choose between. Options were proposed for the bedroom and en-suite areas, and each of the communal areas were given there own distinctive character and appearance.
